Foothills Nurseries Ltd. is located near Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Begun in 1971, Foothills specializes in prairie hardy trees and shrubs, growing stock on their tree farm. We sell only to the landscaping trade.

Foothills Nurseries is proud of our work and feels that our most important asset is you, the customer. We welcome visitors to our nurseries but ask that an appointment be made so that we can be sure someone is available to give you a tour of our growing fields or show you the plant material currently available for sale. Our Stock

Foothills Nurseries has 400 acres of field grown caliper trees (50-100mm) at several locations on the east side of the City of Calgary. In addition, more land is available to increase our production.

We are growing shade, ornamental and evergreen trees for the landscape industry. Our trees are suitable zone 2-4. The trees are grown according to “Canadian Standard” for nursery stock as outlined by CNLA and LANTA.

Continual Improvement

In an ongoing quest to provide our customers with hardy and versatile plants we educate ourselves through courses, workshops and meetings that are provided through the National and Provincial level of the landscape trades / grower groups. We always strive to add new varieties to our product line-up and when new trends are arising we like to be part of the improvement.

Irrigation has added to the success of the nursery. Having started in 1971 growing trees on dry-land we are now appreciating drip irrigation in all our growing fields.

To diversify and serve our customer better we have added “pot in pot” growing. At this time we grow deciduous trees in 15 gallon pots. This is a perfect solution to get trees into those hard to get places because you can carry the tree instead of requiring a tree spade. In addition, Foothills is interested in more than just the green of our trees and shrubs — the growing concern over the environment and careful stewardship of it encourages us to develop our own strategies for being green.
